What is your style? Are you casual, sophisticated, contemporary, traditional, vintage, gothic, punk, retro, grunge, sporty, chic, exotic, Bohemian, minimalist or preppy? If you don’t know, let’s explore.
What appeals to you the most. We all have differing tastes and ideas, but at our core we all have an affinity for one particular type of design, or look. Pay attention to what are you drawn to most often. That’s the perfect indicator of your actual personal style. Take notice of when you receive compliments, especially when they come from strangers. Was it the color you were wearing? If so, continue to wear variations of that color. Was it your perfume? Make that perfume your signature. Only wear that perfume and you will be remembered for it and constantly complimented on it. If you aren’t receiving compliments, you haven’t perfected your look.
Regardless your style, balance and proportion are of the utmost importance in achieving a look be it in your wardrobe or your furnishings. You can have the perfect outfit and ruin the overall look with the wrong shoes or accessories. The same thing goes for décor.
Decor. When guests come to your home, what is their usual response? Are you complimented on the comfort, the beauty, the welcoming feeling they get? Decor can be tricky. Keep in mind weight and balance. Furniture lined up around the wall is not always ideal. Beautiful areas in your home are not only appealing, they offer a sense of comfort and respite. Don’t overload with too many objects in one area. Think in terms of a theme when approaching a space and keep it relatively simple, regardless your style. Too much of a good thing is just that, too much!
Bring life to any space with live plants. They look great, add another layer of dimension and color, and they help clean the air. If you aren’t good at keeping live plants alive, find lifelike silk plants, never plastic. Plants are a great way to add life, fill up an empty space and add beauty to any area.

Accessories can make or break your look. Oversized anything on a small person never works well. The person gets lost in the mass. Small accessories on a larger person don’t create a completed look. They get lost on the individual. Balance and proportion are essential to creating that perfect “look.” What looks great on one person doesn’t necessarily mean it will work on someone else.
Everyone should invest in a full length mirror. Remember to check behind you before leaving the house. Your exit will always be seen by others.
Makeup 101. Makeup is personal. Don’t share your makeup with others, it has been contaminated by your germs and can cause breakouts, eye infections, cold sores and more.
Clean your makeup brushes and sponges regularly.
The skin you are in needs care and nourishment. Cleanse day and night. Apply sunscreen daily, rain or shine. Always work in an upward motion on the face. Gravity never sleeps.
If you’re wearing your make-up the same way you wore it when you first started wearing makeup, it’s likely time to update. As we age, our skin changes from that fresh-faced teen to a less supple, more mature appearance. What worked for you in your teens or twenties isn’t going to continue to work for you forever.
Everyone should have a magnifying makeup mirror. The older you are the more magnification!
Brightly colored eye shadow is great for the young, not so much for the young at heart. The same goes for lipsticks. If you have developed creases around the lips, line your lips before applying lipstick to reduce color bleeding. Keep the liner as close to the shade of your lipstick as possible or go slightly darker.
